Conditional Cumulants in Weakly Non-linear Regime

چکیده

Conditional cumulants form a set of unique statistics which represent a sensible compromise between N -point correlation functions and cumulants measured from moments of counts in cells. They share accurate edge corrected estimators with N -point correlation functions, yet, they are as straightforward to measure and interpret as counts in cells. The conditional cumulants have three equivalent views as i) degenerate N -point correlation functions ii) or integrated monopole moments of the bispectrum iii) they are closely related to neighbour counts. We compute the predictions of weakly non-linear perturbation theory for conditional cumulants and compare them with measurements in simulations, both in real and redshift space. We find excellent agreement between theory and simulations, especially on scales > ∼ 20h Mpc. Due to their advantageous statistical properties and well understood dynamics, we propose conditional cumulants as tools for high precision cosmology. Potential applications include constraining bias and redshift distortions from galaxy redshift surveys.

The Cosmic Distribution of Clustering

For a given statistic, A, the cosmic distribution function, Υ(Ã), is the probability of measuring a value à in a finite galaxy catalog. For statistics related to count-in-cells, such as factorial moments, Fk, the average correlation function, ξ, and cumulants, SN , the functions Υ(F̃k), Υ( ̃ ξ), and Υ(S̃N ) were measured in a large τCDM simulation. This N-body experiment simulates almost the full ...

Predictions for the clustering properties of the Lyman-alpha Forest - I. One-point statistics

We present predictions for the one-point probability distribution and cumulants of the transmitted QSO flux in the high redshift Lyman-α Forest. We make use of the correlation between the Lyman-α optical depth and the underlying matter density predicted by gravitational instability theory and seen in numerical hydrodynamic simulations. We have modelled the growth of matter fluctuations using th...

Experimental Cosmic Statistics I : Variance

Counts-in-cells are measured in the τCDM Virgo Hubble Volume simulation. This large N -body experiment has 10 particles in a cubic box of size 2000 h Mpc. The unprecedented combination of size and resolution allows for the first time a realistic numerical analysis of the cosmic errors and cosmic correlations of statistics related to counts-in-cells measurements, such as the probability distribu...

Stochastic Biasing and Galaxy-Mass Density Relation in the Weakly Non-linear Regime

It is believed that the biasing of the galaxies plays an important role for understanding the large-scale structure of the universe. In general, the biasing of galaxy formation could be stochastic. Furthermore, the future galaxy survey might allow us to explore the time evolution of the galaxy distribution. In this paper, the analytic study of the galaxy-mass density relation and its time evolu...
